June 2020The rort at USP revealed by Professor Ahluwalia and confirmed in the secret BDO report that was made public by C4.5! All under the incompetent and corrupt leadership of Pro Chancellor Winston Thompson who still refuses to resign!
The Fiji Times reports that the University of the South Pacific pro-chancellor Winston Thompson says he does not support the council’s decision to reinstate vice-chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia but he was prepared to work with him. “I had been part of the meetings that caused his suspension but I was not present when the decision to reinstate him (Prof Ahluwalia) was made. “I don’t agree with the decision by the council but it has powers to make the decisions it made.” When asked whether he was implicated by the BDO New Zealand report Mr Thompson said he was aware of it and the matter was presently before the USP Council. The BDO report had been submitted to the council, stated Thompson, at a special council meeting in Nadi in August 2019 and the council considered that report before coming to some decisions while those decisions are in the process of being implemented. And as far as he is concerned the issues that were on the BDO report have been dealt with and is now history. Yeah right! What we have been talking about, continued Thompson, are the current fresh allegations before the council against Prof Ahluwalia, and because the BDO report has been dispensed, it is now history and, therefore, no longer needs to be raised. It seems that Thompson is trying to sweep the corruption highlighted in the report under the carpet! Some think this is why he moved quickly to remove Prof Ahluwalia in a sneaky manner without waiting for a full council meeting! Many believe that Thompson has gone way past his use-by date and should resign or be forced out by the council. All the issues highlighted in the BDO report occurred under his watch, which he deliberately ignored, was a party to it, or was too incompetent to realise or to do anything about! Prof Ahluwalia told the Fiji Times that he was happy to be back in the office following the council’s decision to reinstate him. Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Inia Seruiratu, a senior Fiji military officer provides further proof that the proverbial pop does float to the top!
Seruiratu told the Fiji Times that the COVID-19 pandemic does not directly affect the livelihoods of Fijians living in rural areas. He claims that "despite the varying challenges posed by the pandemic [COVID-19] on the country, those were still exciting times for rural communities!" Wow! Who would have thought that COVID-19 would have created such "exciting times" for our rural communities, meanwhile:
For us, said Seruiratu, "agriculture is our livelihood, fishing is our livelihood and we can run our small businesses because despite the loss of jobs people still need to be fed, and we are the ones who will have to provide them with food". It seems that Seruiratu has found a silver lining to the COVID-19 crisis! He is excited about rural communities being able to profit off the challenges posed by the virus. Especially profiteering off the thousands of workers who lost their jobs and no longer have enough to feed their families! It's often said that something good comes out of every crisis, but I don't think it should be profiteering, especially not off the misery of others! Now is not the time for profiteering because we are all in this crisis together! Now is the time for humanity! Many have started! Individuals and groups of helpers around the country, all doing their little-bit to help those in need. Maybe the silver lining in this crisis is that people will finally realise through their struggles that the Bainimarama Government has been lying, cheating and robbing them for years! And enough is enough! And its now time for a change!! The University of the South Pacific [USP] Chief Librarian Dr Elizabeth Reade Fong was taken in for questioning by the Fiji police Criminal Investigation Department [CID].
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that Dr Fong was being investigated for her alleged breach of COVID-19 national restrictions. But Dr Fong told FBC News that she was taken by CID to be questioned regarding recent protests at USP’s Laucala campus. Dr Fong however claimed that they were not protesting, but rather supporting the suspended Vice-Chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia. Pacific Beat reported that Professor Pal Ahluwalia's suspension over allegations of misconduct had prompted several vocal displays of support from current and former staff and students in Fiji and at other USP campuses around the region. Dr Fong told Pacific Beat that the CID had asked her about whether she supports Pal [Prof Ahluwalia] so basically she answered 'no comment' to all the questions". She also stated that it felt like the police were trying to intimidate the Vice-Chancellor's supporters. "They were very professional but I did get the feeling that there is covert intimidation," said Dr Fong. The man at the centre of it all, reports Radio NZ, said he believed his suspension had come following a paper he wrote to the USP Council outlining serious mismanagement and abuse of office involving his predecessor Rajesh Chandra and members of the council's leadership group. But instead the USP Pro-Chancellor Winston Thompson calls an emergency meeting of just three council members to suspend VC Ahluwalia. They were Thompson, his deputy Aloma Johansson and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, Mahmood Khan. So why was it an emergency meeting that they couldn't wait for the whole council to convene? Its the university with multiple platforms available for connecting people across the globe in a meeting! This stinks of a nasty ulterior motive for the so-called "emergency meeting", which was to quickly suspend Prof Ahluwalia! A secret BDO report, made public by C4.5 confirms Professor Ahluwalia's accusations and shows multiple policy breaches at USP. It also names the new Acting VC Derrick Armstrong! Meanwhile, Thompson stated that there was no need to charge anyone from the previous administration referred to in Professor Ahluwalia's paper! Yeah right! Fiji's megalomaniac Attorney General Sayed Khaiyum posted on social media that "No nation - including #SmallStates - should be forced to choose between sustainable development and supporting citizens affected by the #COVID19 crisis. As the Minister for Economy he doesn't appear to understand basic economics!
Any first year economic student knows that a fundamental concept in economics is that of scarcity - limited resources - and Fiji's resources are limited. Even more so after Khaiyum's 10 years of unprecedented corruption, lies, huge loans, theft and mismanagement! Yes Fiji is broke because of Sayed Khaiyum's greed and corruption. This also means that Fiji is unable to acquire more loans. So it is important now that government chooses carefully regarding which of Fiji's needs and wants to satisfy. Unfortunately, they seem to prefer the fake sustainable development that benefits Khaiyum and Bainimarama and their corrupt family and friends. Meanwhile, the people affected by the COVID-19 crisis are being supported by the worker's FNPF retirement funds. Remember, that the Auditor General also revealed that $400 million had gone missing. This is the polite way of saying that it was STOLEN! So this is a good time to ask where did it all go Khaiyum? That $400 million would go a long way to helping the people now, in this time of crisis! So how about giving the people a little peak into you and Frank Bainimarama's multiple overseas bank accounts! You know, for the sake of transparency, so that we the people can all know that you two crooks haven't stolen it. Fiji’s megalomaniac and failed minister for everything Sayed-Khaiyum is desperate to join a trans-Tasman travel bubble. Especially after COVID-19 revealed his unprecedented incompetence and arrogant mismanagement of the economy that has left the Bainimarama dictatorship broke, lying and forcing the thousands of Fijians who are now unemployed to use their own FNPF retirement savings.
Remember, FNPF reported that 61,000 of its members have ZERO balances! And that Sayed Kahiyum had also cut pensions years earlier by up to 50% and without any consultation with members! It forced many further into hardship and poverty! Many families having to survive off $50 a month, some even $25 a month! And we still wonder why there has been a large increase in crime! Meanwhile, Sayed Khaiyum and Frank Bainimarama paid themselves and their corrupt family and friends large increases in salaries and perks! Some receiving up to 1,000%! But now the Fiji dictatorship is broke! It was broke well before COVID-19 arrived at our shores! So in his desperation Sayed-Khaiyum begged for Fiji to be included in the trans-Tasman travel bubble but Australia and New Zealand know better. They have put the safety of their people first! This upset Khaiyum who accused Australia and New Zealand of demoting Fiji to a "second-class consideration". But it is Sayed-Khaiyum who has failed the people of Fiji. He has been demoting Fiji for over 13 years through his unprecedented lying, corruption and sheer arrogance and stupidity! So it’s no wonder that no one, besides his corrupt family and friends, believes what he has to say! Sayed Khaiyum also claimed that Fiji has eliminated COVID-19 and should be able to welcome Australian tourist 'traffic'. And with no new cases in nearly two months, continued Khaiyum, Fiji deserves better than a second-class consideration in a regional travel arrangement. Yeah right! Where’s the proof Sayed Khaiyum! Even people in Fiji don’t believe you! The pandemic has exacerbated Fiji’s ailing [Khaiyum’s words] economy and left our tourism industry paralysed. So in the interest of the thousands of Fijians who are now unemployed, Sayed Khaiyum says that he is actively exploring all potential options, and is open to creative ideas – including a state-led resumption of travel between Australia and Fiji. He also said that if a fraction of the 10 million Australians who travel overseas each year came to Fiji in 2020, then the Fiji local economy could be quickly revived. This would be fantastic for the thousands of unemployed and struggling families in Fiji. But it also means a return to the same old:
All of these issues will be back in full swing under the same arrogant and incompetent Sayed Khaiyum! This is a key problem facing the nation! And like a cancer it too needs to be treated! The dictator's broadcaster FBC News reported that Fiji's dictator and PM Voreqe Frank Bainimarama LIED during his talanoa sessions to people in Namoli village and Navutu settlement in Lautoka.
The corrupt and lying dictator responded to questions on FNPF withdrawals by telling the people gathered that "he cannot interfere with any policy or decision of the Fiji National Provident Fund". Oh really! Bainimarama continued his LYING saying that many people actually think that he has a say in FNPF, however he stressed that he does not have any power because the FNPF has it’s own board and CEO and they have policies that need to be adhered to. So he cannot change any FNPF policy as he is not allowed to do so. What a load of horse shit! Bainimarama wasn't allowed to:
So only a dumb ignorant fool or a corrupt stupid FijiFirst Party supporter would believe that an FNPF policy will stop him! Frank Bainimarama is a LIAR! It's in his DNA! And his record shows that he doesnt give a damn about guidelines, the suffering people in Fiji, the climate or the Laws of Fiji! Fiji's megalomaniac Minister for Economics and a failed lawyer Khaiyum told the media, while ridiculing a more intelligent Professor of Economics Biman Prasad, that his corrupt Government's Revenue will be down by one billion dollars! Despite this reduction he will only reduce spending by $300 million.
So if Khaiyum is correct then it means he still intends to spend $700 million that his government doesn't have! This is a $1 billion reduction in revenue LESS $300 million reduction in spending = $700 million dinau! It also means our already huge $6 billion plus in public debt will be increased further by $700 million that, based on previous performance, will do very little or nothing at all to help the people. There is also no increase in output or real GDP expected, so it will lead to inflation, a higher cost of living, and a reduction in the real value of everyone’s savings. A sensible secondary school student argues Prof Narsey will know that Government should reduce its spending by the same amount as its decrease in revenue. The Republic of Fiji Mercenary Force [RFMF] that keeps the Bainimarama dictatorship in power is a great source for savings. Thousands of overpaid and useless soldiers and officers parading around all day doing absolutely nothing productive! The police and public service too, including the overly paid State owned Enterprise executives, could also do with a huge pay-cut in these times of crisis! They will still have jobs and enough money to feed their families, at least until this unprecedented 'Act of God' caused by human stupidity comes to pass! The Act of God legislation could also be used to save more by removing those incompetent expatriates and overpaid locals who have done bugger all so far to improve the lives of the people. Click HERE to read Prof Narsey's article. More on Narube's 'We are stronger United!'Narube was the Permanent Secretary of Finance when he, together with the Minister of Finance Ah Koy and PM Rabuka created the super monopoly 'Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited' [ATH] in order to sell its shares for $253 million to pay for the NBF disaster.
Private consultants were also involved, and they apparently made huge fortunes out of the sale. ATH was incorporated as a public company in March 1998 but international companies were reluctant to bid on the sale of its shares due to the lack of a clear regulatory framework. So there were only two real bidders writes Prof Wadan Narsey in his article printed in the Fiji Times, 5 March 2002:
The expert advice at the time was to create competition, not a monopoly! Competition would lead to cheaper prices for consumers and cheap internet for schoolchildren. It was advice that Narube apparently ignored. Narube was appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji in 2000 where he remained until he lost his job in 2009. He subsequently disappeared from public view and remained silent, making no criticisms of Bainimarama and Sayed Khaiyum's huge borrowings and expenditures after 2011. Then he suddenly reappeared in the media in a bid to get into parliament. Some think his recent advice to print and hand out $1 billion in cash is just wonderful! But others suggest its crazy! Crazy or not, it's likely to tickle the greedy 'koco' streak in Fiji's corrupt and conniving megalomaniac dictator Sayed Khaiyum and his dumb greedy puppet PM Frank Bainimarama. They may well jump upon the advice in a desperate effort to get themselves and their broke Government out of the dire financial situation and ailing economy [Khaiyum's words] that Sayed Khaiyum created for Fiji. Their dictatorship could also see it as way to get votes for the next election and use his advice as justification. This could well be Narube's goal in an attempt for securing a ministerial position in the next Bainimarama government. But this could also result in Fiji remaining under the same oppressive Bainimarama dictatorship for another four years! Another four years with more corruption, higher cost of living, more unemployment and poverty, no rule of law and no human rights! What a bloody shame that would be! The alternative and long term solution for increased prosperity and true freedom is for ALL opposition parties to band together at the next election in order to get rid of the Bainimarama and Sayed Khaiyum dictatorship! Politics has a way of revealing hypocrites, those that pretend to stand for some noble ideology and high moral ground but quickly turn-about-face when it benefits them!
It revealed its ugly head when Unity Fiji Party [UFP] Leader Savenaca Narube welcomed the invitation by Fiji's Minister for Everything, the megalomaniac Sayed-Khaiyum, to work together to bring Fiji out of its deep crisis. A deep crisis created from the sheer arrogance, incompetence, corruption and mismanagement by Sayed-Khaiyum! It existed well before COVID-19 arrived in Fiji! COVID-19 revealed the extent of the crisis in a way that even the least educated of society can understand, feel and see for themselves. They see and feel it when they are made to use their own meagre FNPF retirement savings, beg and/or have to barter for food because the Bainimarama government is broke! Yes, government is broke after years of unprecedented lies, greed, corruption, expensive overseas trips, koco spending for family and friends, an undeserved $3,000 daily allowances and over $400 million missing [stolen]! Narube told the Fiji Sun that they [UFP] were willing to work with Sayed Khiayum, Reserve Bank and others to put together the best rescue package given the circumstances that we face. Oh really! So now he cares!! He added that many [who are they we ask?] have been calling for such a united effort to fight this COVID-19 crisis that has devastated the economy and affected 100,000 workers. Wow!! Can you smell the opportunist!! REMEMBER that this is the same Savenaca Narube who REFUSED to UNITE with the SODELPA party in the 2018 general elections to help Fiji remove the Corrupt, lying and oppressive Bainimarama dictatorship that had created the highest ever cost of living and highest ever levels of unemployment and poverty! Yes, this same Unity Fiji Party Leader claimed the so-called moral high ground saying that he could not work with SODELPA to Free Fiji and its people because its party leader Sitiveni Rabuka had carried out the first coup in 1987. Narube clearly put his ego and self-interests before the needs of the people of Fiji! He had his own agenda then, the delusion based on his flawed statistical analysis that youth would flock in the thousands to his new party! But that failed! He and his party did not get past the 5% threshold required to get a seat in parliament! Many argue that if Narube had joined with SODELPA then their extra votes would have given SODELPA two extra seats! Imagine that! It appears that Narube now has another agenda, another opportunity to become relevant again, but this time he will gladly ignore all his fancy high-moral ground rubbish to not work with a party led by a person who carried out a coup! This time it seems that Narube is more than happy to UNITE with the Bainimarama dictatorship that carried out coups in 2000 and 2006 and committed murder, rape and torture! Yes, he will now do this under the pretence of easing the suffering of many families, which he gladly ignored in 2018! Fiji is facing the sad reality of a failed megalomaniac Minister for Economy Sayed-Khaiyum who continues to mismanage the nation's affairs through sheer incompetence and arrogance! His so-called "prudent management" has proven to be fake as Fiji is now broke and unable to help the people in times of crisis!
