May 2022The Fiji Times [29 May] reported AG Sayed-Khaiyum piously stating that "PM Bainimarama decides the election date", but then, in the next few sentences, he reveals "So that's why I chose Wednesday". Note the "I".
This is further proof of what many of us already know, that PM Frank JV Bainimarama is just a puppet and doesn't do any real thinking on the election date... The Fiji Times reported that Opposition MP Niko Nawaikula will spend two years behind bars. The AG Khaiyum appointed High Court judge Justice Thushara Kumarage had found Nawaikula guilty of lying about living in Buca Village and obtaining a financial advantage of more than $20,000 as parliamentary allowances.
This is Khaiyum's latest attempt to have Nawaikula removed from Parliament, after his nephew the SOE had failed to do so earlier. While delivering the sentence, Justice Kumarage said Nawaikula had committed the highest breach of trust to the people and the nation. Meanwhile, the dictator PM Frank Bainimarama is given $300,000 in Per Diem per year without submitting any claim, because Khaiyum “awarded” the per diem of $3,000 per day while travelling. This is by far the highest breach of trust to the people and the nation. Justice Kumarage also said that the money Nawaikula had obtained could have been used to provide more computers to a school in his village or better health care. Well, just imagine what an extra $300,000 per year can do to help schools in villages or health care across Fiji. It's obvious that dictator Frank JV Bainimarama is "More Equal" than Nawaikula and the rest of us! FBC News reported that Fiji's PM dictator Voreqe Bainimarama had reiterated that the Great Council of Chiefs [GCC] and discriminatory policies of previous administrations no longer have a place in Fiji. Meanwhile, he discriminates unfairly against the indigenous Fijian GCC, having disestablished it while allowing the Rotuma Island Council, Fiji Muslim League, Arya Samaj and other councils representing their respective community groups to exist.
Bainimarama's FijiFirst government also removed indigenous Fijians from key roles in government departments and Boards of state owned entities. The US State department's 2020 Country Report on Human Rights Practices also outlined discrimination being ignored by the Bainimarama government. This includes:
fijivillage.com reported that the FijiFirst Govt Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy, who is paid a $148,000 salary [excluding other perks] and gets picked and dropped off in a ministerial vehicle, all paid for by Fiji Taxpayers, has told farmers that the "Rising food prices will have little effect on you and your family if you are willing to make adjustments". Yeah right!!
Dr. Reddy's statement offers little comfort to the 51% of the nation who live in poverty, and are struggling to make ends meet! Many live off the kind assistance from NGO's, friends, neighbours and relatives. Mr Lockington who delivers donated food aid packages to struggling families said on his FB page that a family of four had 2 eggs and 3 packets of noodles for their Mother's Day lunch. So when you're living off the bare essentials, making an adjustment means going without! The National Federation Party said this was a shocking display of insensitivity by Dr. Reddy. Clearly, the Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment Dr. Mahendra Reddy's comment is a reflection of what his FijiFirst Bainimarama government really thinks about the poor! So think very carefully about who you vote for in the next election. Remember, as in the 2014 and 2018 election, a vote for Frank Bainimarama and his FijiFirst party was actually a vote for Sayed-Khaiyum and his failed policies that have given you the highest cost of living and the highest levels of unemployment and poverty in Fiji's history. HELLO!! Anybody home? It's in your DNA, your name and your ancestors!
The corrupt Fiji First Party (FFP) published their latest LIE on their Facebook page, where they show a graph alongside Fiji’s clueless PM Frank Bainimarama who can’t explain GDP, stating that the World Bank has confirmed that Fiji’s Poverty Rate for 2019-20 is now down to 24.1%.
This has to be a lie! Both the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali and FRIEND Fiji Director Sashi Kiran who deal with poverty alleviation across Fiji find it hard to digest that poverty has suddenly dropped. They should know what’s real, they deal with it every day. So it was hard for them to reconcile the World Bank’s estimated poverty rate at 24.1%, compared to 29.9% previously recorded, especially if using the very detailed Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2019-2020 Report. So why the drop? What changed? According to Prof Wadan Narsey's article, the 24.1% estimate is supposedly a correction made by the World Bank on an earlier estimate of 29%. Prof Narsey says that it’s important to note that the FFP Graph is totally misleading because the Fiji Bureau of Statistics and World Bank 2019-20 estimate is based on a completely different methodology, when compared to the earlier three estimates. This statistical lie is a serious allegation, says Prof Narsey. The four rates of poverty are not estimated using the same methodology. The first three [35%, 31% and 28%] are based on INCOME, while the 2019-20 estimate is based on CONSUMPTION, which produced the lower 24.1% estimate. In addition, the FBS and WB also reduced the Basic Needs Poverty Line from what it should have been for 2019-20 at $59 per capita, per week, down to a ridiculously low $49 per capita, per week. It's no wonder the Poverty Rate dropped, artificially. They should have gone a step further and dropped the Poverty Line to $1 per capita, per week, to reduce the Poverty Rate to 0%, and call it the Bainimarama miracle! What a joke! The Fiji Bureau of Statistics and World Bank themselves had emphasised and warned in their correcting Joint Press Release weeks earlier, that Fiji’s 2019-20 poverty estimates could not be compared directly to 2013-14 or the earlier estimates due to the differences in methodology. So why do it at all? This suggests that the World Bank had deliberately changed the methodology to make Fiji look good on the eve of Fiji elections! Smells of corruption and a lack of integrity by the World Bank! The same World Bank that has been accused of improperly doctoring statistics in the past. It’s shocking, says Prof Narsey that the FFP Bainimarama government and the megalomaniac Minister for Economy and everything else Sayed-Khaiyum would deliberately ignore the very important warning highlighted by FBS and WB, and present all four Poverty Rates in the same graph, even though they are not comparable. When using the same methodology based on INCOME, the 2019-20 poverty rate is estimated [based on FBS consumption data] at 50.7% or just over a half of the population, double the official figure published with Bainimarama’s image. This, says Prof Narsey, is more the kind of number (51%) that civil society workers for poverty alleviation like Sashi Kiran (FRIEND), Nalini Singh (FWRM) and Shamima Ali (FWCC) would say reflects the reality on the ground, and not the low 24% that FBS and WB have dished out and used erroneously (and deliberately) by FFP on its Facebook page. The 24.1% is a deliberate lie by the Bainimarama FijiFirst government! Aimed at making a fool of the less educated and gullible in society. Remember, that Bainimarma publicly called Fijians “uneducated” during an interview on a New Zealand radio station in August 2021. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Fiji’s first military coup on May 14, 1987 by Lt.Col Sitiveni Rabuka. It changed Fiji's political landscape, causing sorrow and misery to thousands. He, and his fellow conspirators, are all guilty of the serious crimes of sedition and treason, punishable by death.
While everyone generally attributes the beginning of the coup culture to Sitiveni Rabuka, he wasn't alone. There were other, more powerful snakes, waiting in the grass. Rabuka initially lied, saying that he had acted independently, in the interest of indigenous self-determination, but in his later remarks, he changed his tune. In a 2018 interview with New Zealand-based Fiji journalist, Rabuka claimed that he was “coerced” by the defeated Alliance Party into carrying out the coup. This strongly suggests that he was a weak officer, with low morals and ethics, unlike the Senior Military officers who, years later in 2003, were fired for refusing to follow their Commander Frank JV Bainimarama's illegal and treasonous orders to plan for the removal of the Qarase Govt. In 1987, when Fiji was in the midst of an unprecedented political turmoil over the electoral defeat of the Alliance Government of Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, the conniving, two-faced, liu muri Commander of the RFMF Ratu Epeli Nailatikau (Ratu Mara's son-in-law) inexplicably ran away to Perth to "take delivery" of a small navy boat. After the lawfully elected Bavadra/Reddy/Chaudhry Government was removed by Rabuka, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau did not protest at all. Silent as a mouse! Nailatikau didn't even object to Rabuka, his junior officer, committing TREASON. And nor did he appeal to any of the RFMF to protect the lawfully elected government. Instead, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, a poor excuse for a Ratu, deliberately laid low, allowing the coup to occur, and later accepted high posts in the Rabuka Government like High Commissioner to Britain. Today this low-life, two-faced, liu muri, [add our own description] Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, who has been behind every coup in Fiji, is the Speaker of Parliament under the Bainimarama dictatorship. He is also the very same bugger who, as illegal President after Bainimarama's 2006 coup, had no problems signing Sayed-Khaiyum's Decrees against his own indigenous people, into law! Yes, 14 May is a sad reminder of Fiji's first coup, but Rabuka did not act alone, there were other, more powerful and conniving snakes, who Rabuka remains mum about to this day, some of whom enjoy high positions in Frank JV Bainimarama's dictatorship. Fiji Times reports the corrupt and megalomaniac Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum saying that people needed to understand the motive of the 2006 coup, which was completely different from the 1987 and 2000 coups.
Sayed-Khaiyum said “The 2000 coup was linked to 1987, the rationale and motivation was completely different to what people need to know and understand”. He doesn't explain the difference. So here’s a synopsis. In 2006, Frank JV Bainimarama was running from the law, as police were out to arrest him for his crimes that included sedition, treason, torture and murder of CRW soldiers. So he used his position as Commander RFMF [which he got thanks to Ratu Epeli Ganilau and Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, the current Speaker] to manipulate the gullible and poorly educated senior military officers into helping him carryout his coup. It was done under a bull-shit clean-up campaign to end corruption, nepotism and a number of proposed racist legislations, and other things. If Bainimarama had been arrested and charged, the evidence against him would have sent him to the Naboro Hilton. This is where the CRW and George Speight are still imprisoned following Bainimarama and Ratu Epeli Nailatikau's failed 2000 coup. Just imagine the greeting he would have received had he been imprisoned there! We suspect this thought played heavily on his mind in 2006. Remember also, that Bainimarama had attempted another coup in 2003, when the then government had refused to renew his contract as Commander RFMF and wanted him out. The senior military officers at that time were more educated and of higher standards. They refused to follow his treasonous plans, so Bainimarama had them all removed. Fired! So in 2006, the casava-patch gold medallist Bainimarama staged his coup to save himself from being arrested and sent to Naboro. Then the opportunistic and megalomaniac Sayed-Khaiyum, who was facing bankruptcy, quickly jumped at the opportunity like a bakewa, to become Bainimarama's knight in shinning armour and save him from prison, while milking the country through corruption and theft for the both of them to become the two richest government officials [albeit illegally] in Fiji's history! The Auditor General reported $400 million missing, with widespread corruption and mismanagement under the Bainimarama government. He, too, was removed. Fired! Nepotism is also at an all-time high, with Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum appointing their unqualified family and friends to very senior government roles and boards. Native lands are also being leased and sold without landowner approval and/or knowledge. And there is No free media to question the government about its corruption and theft of resources. Since 2006, Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum have done everything and anything to remain in power, including two rigged elections and spreading fear and intimidation via their special police and military goons. You know you're not independent, when you start sending texts to the AG Khaiyum in Parliament........
Prof Wadan Narsey responded to the corrupt, arrogant, Attorney-General and Minister of Economy and everything Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum who had "blasted" him and USP senior economist Dr Neelesh Gounder, saying that “Academics in Fiji should provide more balanced, accurate and fair commentary on such issues and not try to mislead people due to their political inclinations. We call on independent academics and commentators to provide objective and honest analysis of the Fijian economy”. What a load of rubbish.
Sayed-Khaiyum has been nothing but dishonest for the past 16 years. The results of his lies, arrogance and failed management of the economy is clear to see. Covid revealed the truth that Fiji was broke before Covid arrived. There was no Bainimarama Boom! Khaiyum and Bainimarama are now begging our neighbours and everyone for aid and free budgetary assistance, and looting it when it arrives. Khaiyum's level of dishonesty was further revealed by the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji (Savenaca Narube) who publicly revealed (FT May 5, 2022) that “he was forced to lie and paint a rosy picture about the Fijian economy”. Remember that Opposition MP Tikoduauda also revealed in parliament that Khaiyum had deliberately falsified Fiji's GDP figures and revenue to make Fiji appear more successful than it really was. It fooled the international community, and it's amazing how many so-called academics still believe the lies, just because it made it into the reports of international financial institutions. What a joke! So clearly, Sayed-Khaiyum got upset and resented the truth about his failed leadership, corruption and mismanagement of the Fiji economy being revealed to the world by Dr Gounder and Prof Narsey. He blasted Prof Narsey’s criticisms of his corrupt Government’s reduction of FNPF contributions to help employers survive the COVID crisis, claiming that without this measure, employers would have closed down permanently and thousands of employees permanently unemployed. Khaiyum also claimed that employee contribution were also reduced, because employees wanted more take home pay during the pandemic crisis. Remember that FNPF is not a government entity, so any assistance during the crisis should have come from government, using taxpayer funds. The reality was that there were no taxpayer funds available, because of Khaiyum's corruption and incompetence, to provide the assistance needed during the pandemic. Workers were told to use their own FNPF retirement savings. The so-called smart kaindia A-G Sayed-Khaiyum said that the only way to protect employers and employees was to reduce FNPF contributions. That is blatantly FALSE, said Prof Narsey! Australia did not reduce employee contributions to their superannuation funds, said Narsey, but Sayed-Khaiyum did. To protect genuinely struggling employers, the Australian Government used taxpayers’ funds and granted them “Jobkeeper Allowances” which allowed employers with reduced revenues due to COVID to keep their employees on their payroll until their revenues recovered. That protected both employers and employees, said Prof Narsey. But in Fiji, there were "NO taxpayer funds" available. Fiji was broke from years of lies, corruption, arrogance and theft of $400 million, all before Covid arrived! So the smart kaindia Sayed-Khaiyum’s “solution”, according to Narsey, was to transfer hundreds of millions from the employees’ FNPF balances, and put it into all the employers’ pockets, whether the employer was struggling or not. Meanwhile, Sayed-Khaiyum gave pittances to the thousands of employees who had lost their jobs because of the collapse of the tourism industry. In effect, the employees of Fiji funded the Covid assistance to employers, to the tune of $300 million. Money that employees will never get back into their FNPF! What's sad is that many employees don't, or will never, realise that they were being robbed! Make no mistake, says Prof Narsey, that the hundreds of millions lost from the employees FNPF funds because of the reduction of contributions, would have amounted to billions in twenty years’ time, had they remained in FNPF earning a 5% compound interest rate for thirty years. These employees include civil servants, military and police personnel. The very same idiots who keep Sayed-Khaiyum and Frank Bainimarama in power through the barrel of the gun. FBC News reported that the Fiji Police Force will establish a dedicated Fiji Police Force Human Rights Cell. This has got to be a joke, because Fiji's master torturer and arsonist is the Commissioner of Police himself, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho, the main perpetrator behind Fiji's human rights violations!
This is the same Qiliho who, in August 2007, threatened to kill Fiji's last democratically elected PM Qarase, and the same Qiliho who tortured and spat on Prof Brij Lal. Yes, this is the same Qiliho who also threatened to shoot a judge. He is seen in the FBC News photograph standing with the representatives of the UN Human Rights Pacific and UN Women Pacific, FWCC and the UNDP. Remember, that Fiji's illegal PM and dictator Frank JV Bainimarama also stated that he would defend his men who were seen in a video beating up prisoners. They had even set their dog on the prisoner! This is the same military commander Bainimarama who beat up defenceless men and women that he had rounded up and taken to the military camp, because they had objected to his military coup. The group of men and women were beaten, prodded with rifle barrels and jumped on, as Bainimarama laughed, claimed a senior military officer. The same Bainimarama who screamed at the former Chairman of the PSC Stuart Huggett and kicked and hit him around the head at the RFMF barracks. The same Bainimarama that murdered CRW soldiers. Nothing has happened to these human rights abusers! They walk free, protected by an illegal immunity clause in the illegal 2013 Constitution that was forced on the people of Fiji at gun point, and Bainimarama's gun wielding thugs who spread fear and intimidation. So when Commissioner Qiliho says that the new HR Cell will allow the police to independently investigate and report on complaints against Police officers, you got to wonder if it's a joke, or just another ruse to fool the gullible international community because Fiji already has a Human Rights Commissioner, Ashwin Raj, who has turned many a blind eye to human rights abuse by the ruling FijiFirst Party and their corrupt family and friends. Unfortunately, in a place like Fiji with no rule of law, the only officers who will be charged for any human rights abuse will be those buggers who are not part of the specail Bainimarama and his megalomaniac AG Sayed-Khaiyum's "circle of friends and family", yes, that special club for the corrupt elite who are "more equal than others" in Bainimarama's Fiji. Many fancy things have been said and promised since the 2006 coup by Frank Bainimarama and his puppet master Sayed-Khaiym, like making Fiji equal to Singapore, and even better than NZ and Australia, having salubrious health services and the Bainimarama boom! It was all fake!
It never happened! Not even close! They couldn't deliver it in 16 years! So it's now time for a change! Time to stop the corruption and lies by the FijiFirst paapi party! As we approach the next election, the FijiFirst paapi party has selected a few people to be photographed receiving free donated gifts, aid and funds. This tiny gesture is supposed to fool the other 250,000 unemployed and the 70% of indigenous Fijians living in poverty that govt is helping the people. No, they are not! It's all for show, all Bullshit! IF the FijiFirst paapi party truly cared for the people then it would have diverted the billions it had wasted on cheaply built roads, to the hospitals, medicines, equipment and dialysis and cancer treatments, and other surgeries, etc. It did not! Instead, they spent billions on roads because it was easy to loot the funds. And they did loot it. The Auditor General reported that $400 million had gone missing! This means it was stolen! Now their circus is out again in another attempt to CON the less educated in society into believing their fake promises and trickery. So it's recommended that you talk with your family members and community, explain the truth about Fiji's dire situation under the Bainimarama dictatorship run by Sayed-Khaiyum and his sunset clause, and explain the consequences for our children's future under the FijiFirst paapi party. Frank Bainimarama LIED to the people of Namosi!! The Fiji govt reported that PM Bainimarama told the people of Namosi that "Fiji is better than before". Lasu lasu!! See the before and after outlined in the cartoon.
