The latest decree by Fiji’s megalomaniac puppeteer, Khaiyum, is causing existing political parties a lot of stress. But it could also be an opportunity to unit individual party resources to stand together against a common enemy holding Fiji hostage - bainimarama and khaiyum.
The Political Parties Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosure Decree has been designed to remove all opposition to the military junta led by frank Bainimarama, who is also running from the law to avoid being arrested and imprisoned for his crimes that include treason, murder, theft and corruption. The latest political parties decree dictates that political parties re-register within 28 days or otherwise lose their assets to the state. The decree also threatens political parties who fail to wind down with $50,000 fines or face up to five years imprisonment or both if they continue to operate as a party without re-registration after the 28 day period is over. We already know that the 28 days is unreasonable. So why waste time complaining about it. Instead, why not work together and achieve a better result within the required 28 day time-frame. The problem it seems is that existing parties, on their own, do not have the numbers to make up the required 5,000 member threshold as dictated by the decree. 2,000 members must come from the Central Division, 1,750 from the Western Division, 1,000 thousand from the North and 250 from the Eastern Division. The political parties appear unable to meet these requirements and will therefore not be able to apply for registration. This will mean, under the decree, that they shall be deemed to be de-registered upon the expiry of the 28 days. The Permanent Secretary for Elections will then wind up the party and transfer any outstanding net assets to the military junta. This outcome appears inevitable. So why waste time complaining about it, unless you are prepared to stand-up together and protest on the streets against the Bainimarama junta. Given bainimarama’s record of beating, murdering and sodomizing citizens and jumping on the backs of pregnant women, this option to protest against the junta may not be that easy for a lot of people. So we suggest here that the 28 days be better spent on creating a new political party by combining all the major parties. Each leader becomes a part of the new party executive. This is not the time to stand alone. Instead, now is the time for the individual political parties to stand together and combine their individual strengths and memberships into one major formidable political party to stand against a common enemy, Bainimarama and khaiyum who are holding Fiji hostage. Therefore, why not use this time to form a combined political party under the banner of say, the United Democratic Party of Fiji. This will become a more formidable force to stand against any party created by khaiyum and Bainimarama. The trick is for the political party leaders to put their differences aside for the greater good of Fiji and establish the new party. Each party has its experts and resources and together they can develop the required party policies and documents dictated by the decree within the 28 day timeframe. The objective is to have a political party at the next elections that has the support of the majority of the people. This can be achieved within the 28 day timeline, with good planning and coordination. Individually, each political party appears destined to be de-registered with its assets transferred to the military junta. so why not combine to form a new party............
