Most monkeys can be “potty trained”, which means that they return to their cage to go to the toilet. But it is important to remember that any monkey may still have accidents if they are nervous or if something scares them.
Fiji's fraudulently elected PM, and dictator, Frank Bainimarama, doesn't seem to be potty trained and has been regularly pooping in his pants. Yes, this grown-ass man, father and grand-father, is still pooping in his pants! Key incidents include: 2000 when he abandoned his men and ran away through the the casava-patch to save himself; at Natadola Resort while having dinner with Pacific leaders he was hosting for dinner; and again he pooped in his pants after the 2014 live electoral debate with Opposition leader Ro Kepa. But can people change? Really change? Bainimarama has shown no signs of change. Already he has slapped a citizen and had another beaten. Aristotle thought so, suggesting that by doing just-acts a just man is produced and by lying a liar is produced. So if you stop lying you are no longer a liar and if you stop pooping in your pants then you are potty trained! This is simple wisdom, right?! Websites also tell us 10 quick easy steps to follow to lose weight, how never to be late, or become healthy. So all you need to do is to "do the action" and you become it. Really! Martin Luther called Aristotle “a damned, conceited, rascally heathen”. He said this because Aristotle’s philosophy is the exact opposite of the bible’s. Aristotle says, Do and then you’ll be. The bible says No. The problem is our inner-being. And no amount of doing can change that! Can a leopard change its spots? No! The leopard by itself can only be a leopard. It can be an aggressive leopard or a tame leopard but it can’t stop being a leopard. And the bible applies this truth to humanity. Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? No they can not. But if they could, then we that do nothing but evil can learn to do what is right. (Jeremiah 13:19-23) We just need to simply apply ourselves, to learn best practice, to try harder and never give up. But no, says the bible, our doing does not have the power to affect our being any more than a leopard can change its spots. And neither can Frank Bainimarama change his inner being with all his fancy words, free gifts and sweet promises! He is still the same corrupt, lying, murdering dictator. There needs to be a change of inner-being if we are ever going to be truly changed. But we cannot effect this change ourselves. Instead, Jeremiah directs our gaze to the One who is truly righteous. We cannot become righteous through righteous acts. But we can be grafted into the righteous Branch – Jesus. If we come to Him we have a change of-being. And out of our new nature comes a new kind of righteous-doing. This is the glory of the “new covenant” which Jeremiah speaks of (Jeremiah 31:33-34) People can really change. But not through our own efforts. It takes Christ our righteousness and we need to surround ourselves to him and the Spirit of Christ within us. Then we can, from our new inner-beings, spring forth new behaviour. In this case Bainimarama will stop lying to the people, reveal his true assets, return the millions of dollars he has stolen from the people, admit to his crimes and face a [truly independent] court of law for his acts of treason, sedition, corruption and murder.
