In a TV interview Fiji's Dictator, Bainimarama clearly states that people are allowed to criticise his government [ click here to view video (courtesy of Shazzer & Grubby)]. BUT as always Bainimarama was just lying to impress viewers. A tactic Bainimarama uses whenever he is front of the camera - all just for show! The reality, as we all know, is that if you do criticise the dictator or his administration then you face being arrested, charged, imprisoned or beaten or the whole lot!
A person, Mr Stefan Ali, was charged with disorderly conduct in a public place. Mr Ali is alleged to have made comments regarding the Prime Minister. The prosecution did not object to bail stating that it was a minor offence, BUT they wanted Mr Ali to surrender his travel documents.
