Bainimarama and Khaiyum take steps to ensure they win 2014 elections - by removing political parties4/11/2013 Prof Yash Ghai Taken from the News Content of Radio New Zealand International and the Fijileaks website. The head of Fiji’s now disbanded Constitution Commission, Professor Yash Ghai, says some of Fiji’s new rules for political parties are highly objectionable. Professor Ghai, whose draft constitution was deliberately dumped by Fiji's military junta earlier this month, says such important matters should not be decided by a government not mandated by the people, and which mayhave plans to continue its rule. This last point is key. As we have stated since May 2011, Bainimarama is running from the law because of charges against him that include treason, murder, rape, disobeying orders, illegal removing his Commander in Chief and threatening the Government and Prime Minister. The New Zealand and Australian ministries of foreign affairs were both informed of this but neither Foreign Minister knew what to do. Since then China's aid and influence has increased with the military junta and it now appears that China, on the one side, is wining the political chess match against Australia, New Zealand and the US. Still the Foreign Ministers continue to display a lack of leadership and integrity - making us wonder if their debts to China has them over the barrel or they are just too politically correct and scared to display any form of leadership or metal against China. The time to act was last year. Now China has wiggled itself into the Pacific nation like an irritating tic. Frank Voreqe Bainimarama has no intention of giving up power. The world now knows it. But bainimarama has control of the guns and uses it to threaten, beat, intimidate and murder citizens who speak out against him. The people of Fiji, with no guns, resort to blog sites and some verbal protests that have landed them in the camp of the once proud Fiji military. Our large Pacific neighbours have the resources - but it appears that their leaders require a United Nations resolution. Hence their reluctance to take any effective and strong stance against the junta. Some bloggers have even suggested a racist and condescending outlook on Fiji that stops them from caring too much about the oppressed people of Fiji. But you decide, and history will tell. To give up power means certain arrest and imprisonment for Bainimarama and his associates that include Khaiyum and their thieving group of corrupt relatives and friends. Prof Ghai's criticism comes in a statement published on the Fijileaks website. The veteran constitution-maker, who has now left Fiji, says instead of promoting parties’ formation and growth, the Political Parties Decree puts obstacles in their way. This is deliberately done to remove opposition to bainimarama and khaiyum or "their party" wining the 2014 elections, and remaining in power. Some sources have indicated that the bainimarama party will include his friends, relatives and opportunists, including members of the Muslim community. Professor Ghai also questions the timing of the decree just before Fiji prepares for the Constituent Assembly where political parties would normally be expected to play a leading role. Prof Ghai says it means long established leading politicians may be disqualified from participating in the assembly which is to debate a new regime-drafted constitution. Sources indicate that any remaining parties will be dealt with under new decrees to be published. Prof Ghai questions the need to have rushed through such a law, saying it’s understandable there’s now speculation of a snap election in Fiji. He also says even relatively petty offences are subject to very high penalties. Professor Ghai says political party registration should be handled by an independent office not a government ministry and he expects this will lead to government interference. Unfortunately, everyone who gets involved with Fiji's dictator and khaiyum are never independent. Under bainimarama and khaiyum "independence" means having to say what they tell you to say and do. If not, then you will be removed and be replaced by a simpleton who will. Professor Ghai says political parties, which are the bedrock of democracy, will be weakened as a result. But this is the trickery behind bainimarama and khaiyum's political parties decree. What is interesting is that the world leaders still stand aside after they have been provided with lots of evidence against bainimarama running from the law. These world leaders still choose to delve in political correctness at the expense of the oppressed people of Fiji as if a rigged election, like what bainimarama and Khaiyum are doing now, is the answer. The 2014 elections will not be free and fair and we are seeing that now with the latest political parties decree removing political parties and the choice of citizens to elect representatives. Meanwhile, the people are too afraid to do any thing about this rigged election and many are unable to do anything. But their are others who are currently unwilling to take a stand against the illegal decrees and a government not mandated by the people, but clearly planning to continue its rule at all costs, because they fear they will be standing alone in their fight for freedom against a brutal thug with the guns. However, with the right support those who able to take a stand will be able to do so on behalf of the oppressed peoples of Fiji.
