Brig General Pita Driti has been sentenced to five years jail after the corrupt judge Madigan had earlier overruled a NOT GUILTY verdict by three Assessors. Madigan, as directed by Khaiyum, convicted Driti of inciting to mutiny. But the main culprit behind the plot, Brig Gen Mohammed Aziz, is let free.
FBC News reported that security was tight outside the Suva High Court as a large number of people turned up to hear the sentencing. Driti's lawyer Filimone Vosarogo had asked the court for a suspended sentence. But Justice Paul Madigan said that the submission was unrealistic, given Driti's offences.
