Another day and more lies told by Bainimarama and Khaiyum. People listen to the Fiji news but only nice things are reported – mostly lies when it comes to Bainimarama and his dictatorship. Posts on social media show lots of anger, sadness and frustration... it's become a mechanical routine procedure, right?
We vent our disappointment, sigh, and question the mentality of the criminals holding our beloved Fiji hostage, but, unbelievable is the “cotton wool” approach and lack of assertive action by our neighbours and the international community who preach the necessity of justice, the rule of law, human rights and democracy. Worse still, is that our neighbours all agreed to help each other out if either one of them had their democracies and freedoms threatened. But they never acted on it! The people can’t do very much against a few thugs with all the guns, so we resort to informing the whole of Fiji of the truth about Bainimarama and Khaiyum’s evil needs, plans and corrupt practices. However, our neighbours loved the idea of upholding the principles for good governance and constituting a framework for coordinating a response to regional crises. They declared their support with the rest of the leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum and formalized it in the Biketawa Declaration (2000). But our neighbours did not provide any help when Fiji’s democratically elected Prime Minister, Mr Lasenia Qarase, asked for assistance. The Qarase government was forced out of office in the 2006 coup amid allegations of racism and corruption. None of which have been proven so charges were fabricated and ruled by manipulated and corrupt judges under the direct control of Fiji’s AG [FAG] Khaiyum. Australia and New Zealand took a hard line against Fiji’s military junta, at least a bit harder than the soft options chosen by other Pacific Islands Forum Leaders. Pro-democracy advocates still considered Australia and New Zealand’s approach to be soft sanctions, but Australia and New Zealand were still seen as being petty and vindictive. Some consider this the price for upholding democratic principles in another country? Really? If so, than it’s a pretty cheap price! Australia and New Zealand send their men and women to the other side of the world to fight and die in Afghanistan on a NON-UN sanctioned operation. It was NZ’s largest deployment. The New Zealand government’s perspective of engagement in Afghanistan served three purposes. It supported the UN that had not sanctioned the operations, offered an opportunity to work more closely with NATO (more sucking-up), and it was an important part of restoring the bilateral security relationship with the US (even more sucking-up), which had been strained after New Zealand adopted nuclear-free policies in the 1980s. So based on this the people of Fiji have little chance of getting any sincere and effective support from NZ or Australia. Don't forget Bainimarama's look North policy with China and China's influence on Australia and NZ's economy. Australia did try to help out (so the story goes) but it lost people in an unfortunate accident off the coast of Fiji. Amongst other things, they also provided funding and assistance to Fiji pro-democracy groups until New Zealand’s PM John Keys and Murray McCully decided to “save the dictator” and betray the pro-democracy group in 2012. Using information they had been given by the pro-democracy group in 2011, PM Keys (via the NZSIS) and Murray McCully went about framing the pro-democracy group in an elaborate scheme to ingratiate themselves with Fiji. Their Minister withdrew his illegal orders when challenged in court. Keys then used his "judge" to prevent them from paying court costs. New Zealand's attitude to the Pacific, even more than Australia's, has a “colonial” streak as well as self-interest. NZ exports over $310 million worth of goods and services to Fiji – far more than what they export to Russia. Both NZ and Australia regard stability in the South Pacific as important to their own security and consider that stability is best served by Governments that adhere to constitutional procedures, and preferably democratic ones - Hence their assumed support for the Bitekawa declaration. But the reality is that they are not going to put the effort into achieving any true and proper results when it comes of Fiji. As if Fiji were some embarrassing relative! It’s just two criminals in Fiji who are responsible for the evil happening today – Frank Bainimarama and Khaiyum. Samoa's prime minister welcomed the new Australian foreign minister Julie Bishop's intention to engage diplomatically with the Bainimarama dictatorship of Fiji. But the warns that rapprochement with Fiji is based on Bainimarama returning Fiji to democracy by holding free and fair elections in 2014. PM Tuilaepa Sailele says Australia should certainly try to engage with the interim Fiji government, as long as it helps Fiji to return to democratic rule. Yes….But we all know that truly free and fair elections will never be the case in Fiji under a Bainimarama dictatorship. Some people still have the deluded idea that the 2014 elections will be free and fair, even after draconian illegal decrees placed huge and ridiculous requirements on existing political parties. So I wonder what their definition of free and fair is. SDL received over 70% of the peoples vote in the last Fiji democratic elections but they were ordered to change their party name or be deregistered. Australia’s Bob Carr and NZ’s Murray McCully supported this. Yes, this coming from ministers whose countries stole indigenous lands and treats their indigenous people as second class citizens. Bainimarama knows that he is guilty of sedition, treason, murder, rape, theft and abuse of office. To name just a few key crimes he has committed. Hence his great need for the immunity clause in the constitution. This shows that Bainimarama can’t afford to relinquish power because it will mean certain arrest and imprisonment in the same prison as the very CRW soldiers that he had framed and had tortured. So Bainimarama intends to remain in power, and he is doing everything and anything to achieve just that. Including lying to the indigenous Fijians and the world and using corrupt military officers and a few soldiers to do his evil bidding and spread fear across the populace and keep them under his control. Fear has worked so far but the people have grown fed-up of all the lies and slowly becoming more outspoken against the dictatorship. The spotlight on Fiji’s evils by the international Labour organisations, human rights and unions have also helped to build courage. But at times it can all feel pointless. You feel as though you can't do much about it anyway, right?... Wrong! Truth will prevail over evil, it always has, so don’t give up. Stay the course. It’s just a matter of time. The dictators in the Middle East were removed by the people after 40 years. That’s a really long time! However, we can achieve the same outcome much sooner, if everyone does their small part. Remember you can do something about it, even though it may seem pointless with:
By rising up we will return Fiji to truly free and fair elections! The military thugs will return to barracks and Bainimarama will stand aside. No more lying and going around threatening our own people. We will all walk forward together as a nation – with a truly free media, the rule of law, an independent judiciary, freedom of speak our minds and a government of the people, for the people, by the people! Whatever our difference we will work through them together and restore Fiji’s dignity. So help us God. So what's that next step after talk? ACTION !
