November 2022Sixteen years ago, Police Commissioner Andrew Hughes was about to arrest Bainimarama for:
This is when that conniving, low-down, "smart kaidia" made his move, promising to pay Bainimarama and his family heaps of money, and to rig a constitution that gives immunity to Bainimarama and his corrupt family and supporters. For sixteen years, the corrupt Fiji First Party run by Aiyaz Khaiyum has been throwing money around to contractors to the Fiji Roads Authority, including the largest local companies in Fiji, who have all been making fortunes. The most senior military officers of the RFMF, Police and Prisons have also reaped the benefits with Freebies given out for the 2014 and 2018 Elections. These were all paid for with borrowed money, which has increased the Public Debt to astronomical levels of more than $9 billion. This means the people and their children are going to have great difficulty paying it off into the future. Because Fiji's economy did not grow as it should have. Fiji is broke. There was NO Bainimarama Boom. Most of the money was wasted, stolen, leaving behind a crumbling infrastructure to show for it -- roads, water, hospitals, electricity -- everything that the people have been complaining about. Professor Narsey’s latest article shows how the average household debt has grown from a massive $9,000 in Rabuka’s time, which Narsey says was manageable, to more than $48,000 today. This, says Narsey, is a disastrous amount which the average household has no hope of ever paying off, because it will be the poor ordinary taxpayers paying it, not the rich. What's interesting is that observers have been saying that the people of Fiji are so fed-up of Khaiyum and Bainimarama, and also the Military Council, that a number of big business tycoons who have been supporting Bainimarama and Khaiyum have got a Plan B, just in case the FFP loses the election. According to Facebook posts, many have purchased tickets on a Fiji Airways flight out of Fiji scheduled for 15 December, the day after the elections. Unfortunately, the ordinary rank and file in the RFMF and Police have been merely following orders, like sheep, and they can hardly be blamed for the Public Debt mess that Fiji is in today. But the more interesting thing, is where will Bainimarama and all his senior military supporters like Nailatikau, Seruiratu, Epeli Ganilau, Qiliho, Konrote and Kean, run to? The gnomic Mr Ashwin Raj has been appointed Fiji's Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation. No Merit appointment here.
Grubsheet says it best when he writes [facebook page] that the FijiFirst government thinks so little of our women and their children that it has replaced a woman with a man to preside over their affairs as Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation. And worse, a man with no obvious qualifications for the job apart from being one of FijiFirst's most slavish toadies and defenders. Ashwin Raj, says Grubsheet, takes over from Jennifer Poole - who is leaving "to pursue other interests", the civil service euphemism for getting the sack - having been both Head of the Media Authority, that enforces the government's draconian media laws, and Head of the Human Rights and Anti-discrimination Commission, which gained a reputation for its selective approach to human rights - ignoring successive human rights violations by FijiFirst and especially those directed at its opponents. The best that can be said for Ashwin Raj, continues Grubsheet, is that he at least came from a modest background and will have some knowledge of the challenges facing the underprivileged. But he has zero specialist experience with women's issues and no obvious administrative qualifications to be placed in charge of such an important ministry at the top of the civil service. Grubsheet understands from internal government sources that this is very much a "grace and favour" appointment by Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum of one of his most trusted and loyal lieutenants. The applications for PS positions had reportedly closed but the one for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation was re-opened on the orders of the AG and Ashwin Raj was fast-tracked into the position. This in itself is a matter of grave public concern.......... This is another reason why YOU MUST VOTE, have your say, to REMOVE the Corrupt FijiFirst Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum Party out of office. For over 16 years, the FijiFirst Party run by Sayed-Khaiyum, and protected by Bainimarama and his military thugs, have lied, cheated and robbed Fiji, creating the highest cost of living with over 51% of the nation now living in poverty, all because of Khaiyum and Frank Bainimarama's Greed, incompetence, corruption and KOCO attitude.
Bainimarama and Khaiyum have become rich, overnight multi-millionaires, living in luxury, while you the common people and your families struggle to make ends meet during the highest levels of unemployment, and the highest level of national debt which is why there is no money left each month after paying for the debt, to fix hospitals, provide medicines, provide hospital beds and meals, and even basic health care. But there is always money made available to pay Bainimarama his $3,000 per day travel allowance. So, if you are one of those who still believes in Bainimarama and Khaiyum, then you are the definition of STUPID. The Campaigning Laws in Fiji: Electoral Act 2014 outlines the biased and one-sided campaigning laws in Fiji that favours the corrupt FijiFirst Party dictatorship, of which the AG Sayed-Khaiyum is the General Secretary of the FijiFirst party and is also Minister of Elections, with his nephew Saneem the Supervisor of Elections.
If you think this is going to be a "Free and Fair" election, then you have got to be some special kind of STUPID. maitvfiji.com reported that Fiji’s National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad had welcomed the decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde in clearing him of allegations of indecently annoying a woman earlier this year.
“As the matter does not meet the evidentiary threshold, police have been directed not to file any charges,” said Pryde. Police had initially charged Prof Prasad with two counts of indecently insulting or annoying a person without first consulting the DPP. This is further proof of police commissioner Qiliho's incompetence and arrogance. Remember, this is the same Qiliho who failed RFMF officer training courses, but was given a pass on Bainimarama's orders. It also suggests that the corrupt FijiFirst Party run by AG Sayed-Khaiyum used their puppet Qiliho to charge Prasad in an attempt to have him disqualified from standing in the next elections. This saga began when NFP provisional candidate Hiroshi Taniguchi was terminated by the party and lodged a formal complaint with the FEO against his former Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad. The complaint was dismissed by the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem. So, Taniguchi's wife then lodged a complaint with the Police, who interviewed Prasad and subsequently charged him. It seems that texting Mrs Taniguchi's wife and applying the Fijian customary greeting with a hug and kiss on the cheek was okay, while Taniguchi was still a provisional candidate. But this all changed after he was fired from the party, and Taniguchi threw a hissy-fit, even using his wife in an attempt to get back at his former party leader. The Fiji Election Date for 2022 has been set for 14 December 2022. Finally, the people will be able to have their say and vote in the Government they choose. That's assuming that the elections will be free and fair, in every sense of the word. Not very likely!
The current Frank Bainimarama and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum dictatorship have too much to lose if a new government comes to power. It could even mean taking up new residence in Fiji's Naboro Hilton for the pair of them. Their illegal 2013 Constitution, that was forced on the people, and which has not been approved by any Parliament, will not protect them either. So, it's safe to say that Fiji can expect another rigged election, similar to that in 2014 and 2018, and if that fails to keep them in power, then it's more than likely that a Coup will be carried out. Time will reveal all. We will see if those meant to protect our Rights and Freedoms do actually acquire their proverbial "galanas" and moral compass and uphold their sworn oaths to protect the people of Fiji, instead of protecting the corrupt and illegal dictatorship. It will also be interesting to see if the opposition parties do find their "galanas" to defend their win and not buckle and bend over like they did in 2018. |
