Its interesting to read NZ media reports that NZ’s Prime Minister John Key said that it was unlikely that New Zealand's decision on whether to join the US-led response to Islamic State militants in Iraq, by committing military forces there, would put New Zealand at greater risk, but that could not be a factor in the decision. Yes, it seems NZ is following the USA, .....for that special seat on the UN Security council?
Key said that "If you weren't prepared to do anything solely on the basis of that [increased risk], then you actually start losing your independent foreign policy because by definition you're saying that the actions of terrorists will stop you standing up to those terrorists." But the NZ National Government bent-over backwards to appease the USA and ignored a criminal dictator just next door in Fiji, and let the terrorist run wild and murder, torture and rape Fiji citizens over eight years? Is this hypocrisy or just NZ independent foreign policy?! Key says that he has not ruled out a military contribution in Iraq, which will involve the use of NZ’s Special Forces, the SAS, participating in the coordination and assistance of what will be the manslaughter and murder of innocent Iraqi citizens, including those branded as terrorists, who are family, friends and relatives of people now living in Australia and New Zealand. ....And they wonder why some NZ and Australian citizens run off to join Islamic state?! Interesting!
