My fellow soldiers It is not the first time, since our independence, that we have been called upon to save our beloved country. She cries out to us to help her in this time of yet another crisis. With increasing record levels of unemployment, poverty, inflation, corruption, theft of our natural resources, low investments, brutal attacks on citizens, oppression and fear, she calls out to us. As more information continues to come to light about the past coups we all become better informed about the rights and wrongs of their intentions. Clearly, those involved, rightly or wrongly, all had their own reasons, ideas and understanding for supporting the coups. Everyone will be held to account for their actions, under a truly free and totally independent judiciary of the highest caliber. Regrettably, a number of us supported the 2006 coup on the idea, amongst other things, to rid Fiji of corruption by the Qarase Government. A key allegation against the Qarase government was that they had rigged the elections and were heavily engaged in corrupt practices. Therefore, as justified by the Commander RFMF, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, and on his orders, we supported the coup of 2006. However, Bainimarama’s true intentions behind the coup later became clear to us. Since the coup of 2000, Bainimarama had been trying to over throw the government in a military coup to avoid being arrested and imprisoned by the Fiji police. The police were going to arrest and charge Commodore Frank Voreqe Bainimarama for:
Whatever our sins, we each must have our day in court and let the chips fall where they may. This is the only way forward. No longer can we hide behind claims of duty and honour to the institution judiciary while the majority of our people live below the poverty line, have no jobs and struggle to pay their bills and to support their families. There are many of us who have some relative or friends in this situation. Many of us are helping them out as best we can. Its one of the best aspects of our tradition and how God made us. It is also because of who we are, our identity, our culture and sense of humanity. But many of our people are suffering because of only a few individuals who are determined to remain in power – no matter what. Bainimarama and Khaiyum continue to lie to us while they steal Fiji’s resources and pay themselves salaries far more than the salary of the American President Barrack Obama. Each of Bainimarama and Khaiyum’s salaries are more than the combined salaries of both the Australian and New Zealand Prime Ministers. Bainimarma also preached that he was reducing corruption but this is clearly not the case. Bainimarama and Khaiyum are more corrupt then the Qarase government ever was. Bainimarama also said that there will be free and fair elections but he and Khaiyum have conspired to stop any constitution that doesn’t keep them in power and to remove all political parties from standing at the next elections. This evil treachery is aimed at keeping themselves in power and out of prison. This has been Bainimarama’s goal since his coup of 2000 and Khaiyum, with his father’s coaching, eagerly joined Bainimarama. Bainimarama also told Khaiyum, in front of senior officers, that “if you (Khaiyum) ever leave me, I (Bainimarama) will kill you”. Hence, the Bainimarama and Khaiyum relationship continues. In 2000 Commander Frank Voreqe Bainimarma cunningly ordered the CRW soldiers into parliament to overthrow the Government. When things didn’t go his way Bainimarama then accused the CRW soldiers of supporting the coup and he had them, arrested, beaten and imprisoned. We were all caught up in the events of 2000 and didn’t see through Bainimarama’s lies. Bainimarama wanted to remain as Commander RFMF but the Government had decided not to extend his contract. So Bainimarama threatened the Prime Minister and the Minister of Home Affairs who, under duress, illegally signed his contract. Bainimarama still wanted to rule Fiji, it was his only way to escape being imprisoned. So Bainimarama planned to remove government in a coup but most of his senior military Army officers, except Iowane Naivalurua (the current Commissioner of Police), refused to support a treasonous act. Bainimarama had them all removed. Then in 2006 Bainimarama finally got to overthrow the democratically elected Government of Fiji. Since then Bainimarama has lived up the good life like a king while the economy has declined to the worst it has ever been. Investments have almost dried up. Pensions have more than halved with cost of goods increasing. Unemployment and crime are at their highest and so are the number of suicides and social problems. But Frank Bainimarama continues to say that this is the best time Fiji has ever had – this is rubbish! Commodore Frank Voreqe Bainimarama does not have the majority support of the people of Fiji, as he claims. This is why he is putting a lot of time and Fiji government money into ensuring there are devious and immoral people working for him who are focused on deceiving our poor and less educated people. The main task of these forked-tongued writers is to ensure that we and our children never know the truth. But the truth will set us free, and one way is to leave it up to a truly free and independent judiciary that has been appointed by a government that was elected by the people of Fiji, in a truly transparent, free and fair democratic election. A lot of people have suffered under this regime and a few are making money through corrupt practices, but the majority of the people are feeling the pain of this dictatorship. Sadly some do not understand the reasons for their pain and fall prey to the misinformation and lies being broadcast by Bainimarama’s highly paid local and international spin-doctors (the forked-tongued writers). But the message is getting out that Bainimarama does not have the majority support of the people of Fiji so he has no intention of holding free and fair elections. Bainimarama and Khaiyum will stop any and all attempts, by the people, to form a political party and have any chance of winning the next elections. No matter what strategies any existing or new political party uses, Kahiyum will ensure there is another illegal and draconian decree to stop it dead in its tracks. We will never be able to vote for who we want to represent us. Fiji will never have free and fair elections under the Bainimarama dictatorship. The only institution that can end this dictatorship is the very same institution that carried out all the coups and created this latest cloud of oppression and fear across Fiji — the RFMF. Therefore the RFMF must redeem itself in the eyes of the people and the international community and put a stop to this corrupt, brutal and lying dictatorship and free the people. Remember the bati — it is their duty to protect the people and the land.
