Vodafone fiji, under its corrupt managing director Aslam Khan, had over 10 years monopoly of the Fiji mobile phone service. And they sure milked the system, cheating the Fiji consumers
with high rates reaching up to $2 per minute (as claimed) - becoming the 10th largest earner for the Vodafone group, world wide. Yes, out of the entire world, vodafone fiji was cheating the Fiji consumers out of millions to be the 10th largest earner in the world! Vodafone called it good business - BUT there was no competitor in Fiji! So it was simple daylight robbery and exploitation! High ranking government sources also claimed that Bainimarama and Khaiyum receive kickbacks from vodafone. Pio Tikoduadua, the PS for the Prime Minister's Office, was not able to maintain eye contact when he was asked this question by one of our sources. Digicel arrived as competitor to vodafone, bringing actual quality services to Fiji's mobile market. Digicel also introduced the latest technology, the latest version of phones, better coverage and more affordable prices around 15 cents per minute. Vodafone, with its higher operating costs, couldn't compete so it resorted to lying to consumers and false advertising (like vodafone's 3G services. It was no-way near 3G as consumers were lead to believe). Business houses and government agencies also realised they could get better services and coverage at a much more affordable price. So they switched to digicel. Aslam Khan's lucrative salary, reported to be over $600,000 a year, was threatened. The monopoly of the Fiji mobile market gave Aslam Khan a false sense of superiority. He started paying his managers and staff higher salaries, which increased vodafone's operating costs so they are unable to compete with digicel. To appear somewhat competitive, vodafone were offering outdated versions of phones and covered the scam with false advertising. Aslam Khan turned to threatening business houses and government agencies that opted to switch over to digicel. Making false accusations against CEO's and managers to Bainimarama and his corrupt AG Khaiyum. Switching to digicel also affected Khaiyum's gravy train of loot from corruption. Ajit Godagoda, the chairman of FNPF and Vodafone, was also presenting lies to Bainimarama. In 2012 all government agencies were ordered by the corrupt Kahiyum to use Vodafone's more expensive and poor services. Now, vodafone wants the sponsorship rights for the Fiji 7's team, so its turned again to corruption to achieve its objective.
