C4.5 reports that unconfirmed information suggests that Fiji's dictator, Frank Bainimarama (who is running from the law for crimes including treason, sedition, murder and corruption), has picked his brother-in-law, Francis Kean, to succeed him as Commander RFMF. A formal decision is expected this Friday, when Bainimarama is due to step down and name his political party for the 2014 elections.
Kean is the brother of the dictator's wife, Mary. In 2010 he was reinstated as Commander Navy after serving time in jail for manslaughter, a move that almost triggered an internal coup. The dictator probably sees Kean as his safest bet to provide the much needed security the dictator will need as he attempts to manipulate the general elections.
